December Performances at the
New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Bring a little Yule tide cheer into your life with jazz. We hope you can join us for one of our ranger programs or jazz concerts, many in the spirit of the Holidays, during the park’s Christmas New Orleans Style schedule. Wednesday, December 3 John Royen 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. John Royen displays the piano lineage in jazz music during this hour long performance. Friday, December 5 Brian Seeger Group featuring Scott Bourgeois 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Guitarist Brian Seeger whisks in some Holiday cheer with this Christmas themed jazz concert featuring the sax great, Scott Bourgeois. 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Alex Peña Guitarist Alex Peña performs his graduate recital from the University of New Orleans jazz studies program. Saturday, December 6 Kids Program with the Storyville Stompers 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. Children are invited to bring their own instruments for a hands on traditional jazz workshop with members of the Storyville Stompers Brass Band. December 6 (cont.) Shades of Praise 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. New Orleans’ inter racial gospel choir and band perform their annual Christmas concert. Wednesday, December 10 John Royen 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. John Royen displays the piano lineage in jazz music during this hour long performance. Saturday, December 13 Kids Program with the Storyville Stompers 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. Children are invited to bring their own instruments for a hands on traditional jazz workshop with members of the Storyville Stompers Brass Band. ‘Zat You Santa Clause with the American Jazz Ensemble 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. In reverence to the Holiday hit by Louis Armstrong, the American Jazz Ensemble brings you a classic jazz Christmas. Wednesday, December 17 John Royen 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. John Royen displays the piano lineage in jazz music during this hour long performance. Saturday, December 20 Kids Program with the Storyville Stompers 11:00 – 12:00 p.m. Children are invited to bring their own instruments for a hands on traditional jazz workshop with members of the Storyville Stompers Brass Band. December 20 (cont.) Lars Edegran & the Riverwalk Jazz Band featuring Big Al Carson 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Back by popular demand, a traditional New Orleans jazz Christmas with Lars and Big Al featuring all the Holiday classics performed with a distinctively local flavor. Wednesday, December 24 John Royen 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. John Royen displays the piano lineage in jazz music during this hour long performance. Saturday, December 27 Shara’s New Orleans Jazz Band 2:00 – 3:30 p.m. Versatile drummer Mayumi Shara leads her 5 piece New Orleans jazz band. Wednesday, December 31 John Royen 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. John Royen displays the piano lineage in jazz music during this hour long performance. Don’t miss the musical rangers, Bruce Barnes and Matt Hampsey as they perform a jazz roots program on December 4th, 9th, 11th, 16th, 18th, and 30th. Each ranger musical demonstration will last from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. and will highlight a significant musical development in the evolution of New Orleans jazz. These activities are free and open to the public and will take place in the park’s Visitor Center at 916 N. Peters Street, unless specified. The Visitor Center is the site of programs and music performances relating to the origins, development and progression of the uniquely American musical art form of jazz.
