New Orleans Jazz National Historical Park Whether its a ranger led jazz roots program, the Wednesday piano series, Music For All Ages kids program, or our popular Saturday concert series, The New Orleans Jazz NHP offers many opportunities to whisk in a jazzy New Year! Wednesday, January 2 Jim Hession 12:00 1:00 p.m. Master of stride and boogie woogie piano styles Jim Hession embarks on a tour de force of American jazz piano. Saturday, January 5 Kids Program with the Storyville Stompers Brass Band 11:00 12:00 p.m. Children are invited to bring their own instruments and participate with members of the Storyville Stompers Brass Band in this hour long performance. Lionel Ferbos & the Palm Court Swingers 2:00 -3:30 p.m. Trumpeter Lionel Ferbos, the oldest active jazz musician in New Orleans, leads his band in a program of traditional jazz. Saturday, January 12 Kids Program with the Storyville Stompers Brass Band 11:00 12:00 p.m. Children are invited to bring their own instruments and participate with members of the Storyville Stompers Brass Band in this hour long performance. Tony Green & Gypsy Jazz 2:00 3:30 p.m. Guitarist Tony Green and his trio perform a swinging acoustic jazz set in the mode of Django Reinhardt. Greg Thompson & Savoir Faire 2:00 3:30 p.m. Satiny vocalist Greg Thompson leads his band in a program of soulful jazz standards. Joe Krown Organ Combo 2:00 3:30 p.m. Join Joe Krown and company as he lugs in his Hammond B 3 organ for a set of funky jazz. Dont miss the musical rangers, Bruce Barnes and Matt Hampsey as they perform a jazz roots program on January 3rd, 8th, 10th, 15th, 17th, 22nd, 24th, 29th and 31st. Each musical demonstration will last from 3:00 4:00 p.m. and will highlight a significant musical development in the evolution of New Orleans jazz. These activities are free and open to the public and will take place in the parks Visitor Center at 916 N. Peters Street, unless specified. The Visitor Center is the site of programs and music performances relating to the origins, development and progression of the uniquely American musical art form of jazz.
